Board & Book (“we,” “our,” or “the app”) is a chess learning application for iPhone. This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
1.1 Anonymous Account Identifier. When you first open the app, Firebase Authentication creates an anonymous user ID — a random string with no connection to your name, email, or Apple ID. It exists solely so your progress can sync if you reinstall the app.
1.2 Progress Data. Puzzle completion, reading positions, and game resume data are stored locally on your device (UserDefaults). Learn and Play resume positions also sync to Google Cloud Firestore when you are online, associated with your anonymous identifier.
1.3 Subscription Data. If you purchase a premium subscription, Apple processes the transaction. We use RevenueCat (a third-party subscription management service) to verify your entitlement. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID and subscription status. We do not receive your Apple ID, payment method, or billing address.
1.4 Analytics. Firebase Analytics collects anonymous usage events such as puzzles solved, chapters read, games played, and settings changed. These events contain no personally identifiable information. Firebase assigns a random instance ID to your device for aggregation purposes only.
1.5 Crash Reports. Firebase Crashlytics collects crash logs to help us fix bugs. Crash reports include device model, OS version, and stack traces. They do not include personal data.
1.6 Information We Do Not Collect. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, physical location, contacts, photos, browsing history, or advertising identifiers. Board & Book contains no advertisements and never will.

Data processed by these services may be transferred to and stored on servers in the United States. Google and RevenueCat participate in applicable data protection frameworks and employ encryption in transit and at rest.
Your anonymous account and progress data are retained as long as your account exists. If you delete your account (Settings → Account → Delete Account & Data), all data is permanently removed from our servers within 30 days. Local data on your device is deleted immediately.
Crash reports are retained by Firebase Crashlytics for 90 days. Analytics data is retained in aggregate for up to 14 months per Google’s standard retention policies.
5.1 Access and Portability. Because we collect only an anonymous identifier and chess progress data, there is minimal personal data to access. You can view all your data within the app (Profile tab).
5.2 Deletion. You can permanently delete all your data at any time: Settings → Account → Delete Account & Data. This removes your anonymous account, all cloud-synced progress, and all local data. This action is irreversible.
5.3 Do Not Sell My Personal Information (CCPA). We do not sell personal information. We have never sold personal information. If you are a California resident, you have the right to know that no sale of your data has occurred or will occur.
5.4 European Users (GDPR). Our lawful basis for processing your data is legitimate interest (providing the app service you requested) under Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR. You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing of, and port your data. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@boardandbook.app. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
Board & Book is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the European Economic Area). The app functions fully with only an anonymous, non-identifying account.
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data. All network communication uses TLS encryption. Cloud-stored data is encrypted at rest by Google Cloud. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
