These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Board & Book application (“the app”). By downloading or using the app, you agree to these Terms.
Board & Book is a chess learning, training, and playing application for iPhone. It includes free content and premium content available through a paid subscription.
2.1 Premium subscriptions are processed exclusively through Apple’s App Store. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account.
2.2 Subscription options include monthly, annual, and lifetime tiers. Prices are displayed in the app at the time of purchase and may vary by region.
2.3 Monthly and annual subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
2.4 You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your device’s Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
2.5 Refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with their refund policy. We do not process refunds directly.
2.6 The lifetime tier is a one-time purchase that does not renew.
2.7 Free trial periods, if offered, automatically convert to a paid subscription at the displayed price unless cancelled before the trial ends.
3.1 All chess content in Board & Book — including puzzles, chapters, editorial text, and visual design — is original work or derived from public domain historical chess records.
3.2 The Arasan chess engine is included under the MIT License. The full license text is available in the app under Settings → About → Licenses.
3.3 Content is provided for personal, non-commercial use only. You may not reproduce, redistribute, scrape, reverse-engineer, or republish Board & Book content without prior written permission.
3.4 The Board & Book name, logo, and visual identity are the property of Board & Book. You may not use them without prior written permission.
4.1 No account registration is required to use free features. An anonymous account is created automatically via Firebase Authentication for progress saving.
4.2 You can delete your account and all associated data at any time: Settings → Account → Delete Account & Data. Deletion is permanent and irreversible.

The app is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Board & Book and its developers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, arising from your use of or inability to use the app.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Board & Book, its developers, and its affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorney’s fees) arising from your use of the app or your violation of these Terms.
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Ohio, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms or your use of the app shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation by contacting legal@boardandbook.app. If negotiation fails within 30 days, either party may initiate binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, conducted in Cincinnati, Ohio. You agree that any arbitration shall be conducted on an individual basis and not as a class, consolidated, or representative action.
If any provision of these Terms is found by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, that provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
These Terms are between you and Board & Book, not Apple Inc. However, you acknowledge that Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and that upon your acceptance, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you. Apple has no obligation whatsoever to furnish any maintenance and support services with respect to the app.
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Board & Book regarding the app, superseding any prior agreements.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
